Rockets In Review: October

October marked the start of the season for the majority of our teams with seven Rockets sides subsequently claiming their first league wins of the campaign.

Our Under 18 Women got their season off on the right foot by overcoming City of Leeds Basketball Club 74-59 to claim their first win before going on to beat Durham Palatinates and Liverpool Basketball Club to end October with a 100% record.

It was a memorable month for our Under 12 Mixed team too – as they comprehensively beat Leicester Rider Red 43-23 before snatching a 54-52 win over former local rivals Team Birmingham Elite courtesy of a 21-9 fourth quarter run at Doug Ellis Sports Centre.

Our Under 18 Men’s side picked up their maiden victory on the second weekend of the season, overcoming Charnwood College Riders 76-70 before being awarded a BYE on the final weekend of the month to ensure they ended October with a positive record.

It also took until the second weekend for our Men’s First Team to record their first league win of the year; with a 25-point second quarter, and an 18-point display from Matt Parker, helping us overcome the league’s eventual basement side away from home.

Our Under 14 Premier side also claimed their first win of the season on the final Saturday of the month against Newcastle Eagles to kickstart their league campaign.

It was a busy month for our Under 14 Conference side with five games in October and they would clinch their first league win in dramatic fashion as they held firm to record a 44-43 win away at Stourport Spartans.

Our Under 16 Premier side ensured that we would finish October with two teams boasting 100% records as they won their first four games courtesy of some dominant displays.

They started October with a 83-51 win over Derby Trailblazers before a 78-42 demolition of Leicester Riders at Nechells Wellbeing Centre the following weekend.

Coach Ricardo D’Alva’s side continued their impressive start by securing a 63-52 win at Team Birmingham Elite which was followed by a 80-63 home win over Northamptonshire Titans to cap off a memorable month.
