Community Session FAQs

How do I book a basketball session with City of Birmingham Rockets Basketball Club?

To book onto one of our sessions, select the session you wish to attend, click on the icon to bring up the registration form, fill out the form carefully and then come along to the session. We require a monthly commitment in order to book onto sessions as this ensures our coaches are able to plan sessions effectively and ensure players have the best possible experience with us!

What age/ability levels do your sessions cater for?

Our sessions cater for players aged 5 and up. Our mini basketball sessions are the first point of entry for players aged 5-11 with our development sessions for those aged 11-17. We also offer adult recreational sessions on Mondays & Fridays for anyone aged 18+.

Our coaches are experts in ensuring all participants have the best possible experience with us and divide sessions into sub groups dependent on age, size, skill level and experience. All of our sessions are therefore suitable for beginners through to the more experienced player.

What is a club membership and do I need one to attend sessions?

A club membership is a mandatory part of the registration process for repeat participants. Once a player has attended one month’s worth of sessions, a club membership is mandatory in order to attend future sessions. Club members receive a reversible club kit, exclusive discounts at club events (such as camps) and are then able to book onto sessions for the duration of their membership.

Club members still need to book onto and purchase any sessions they wish to attend.

My child would like to try basketball – can I try a session before booking for a month?

Unfortunately, due to the exceptional demand for spaces on our community sessions, we are no longer able to offer taster sessions. We advise those interested to come along and observe a session and speak to the coaches to decide if it is right for them, or to book onto one month’s worth of sessions (a membership is not required until booking a second month) to experience our community sessions.

What does my child need to bring to a session?

If you are preparing to come to one of our sessions for the first time, we recommend a loose fitting t-shirt, shorts and suitable footwear for indoor sports such as trainers. We also reccomend bringing a water bottle as water breaks are incorporated into sessions.

Can I watch my child’s session?

Of course! However, please be aware that the protocol is different at each of our sessions. For example, our Saturday morning sessions at Nechells Wellbeing Centre have a viewing platform above the sports hall – parents are not permitted to enter the hall during sessions at this venue. Alternatively, parents are welcome to observe from benches at the side of the halls at our other venues around the city. We ask that parents/guardians be respectful and unintrusive if choosing to observe sessions.

Can I record my child and upload footage of them at sessions to social media?

Unfortunately, this is not possible due to potential safeguarding risks for other participants. Recording of our sessions is therefore strictly prohibited unless express permission is received in writing by City of Birmingham Rockets Basketball Club – we thank you for your understanding as we look to ensure all participants are safe and receive the best possible experience during their time with us.

I would like to provide feedback or submit a report about an incident at a session – how do I do this?

Please email us at enquires@cobrockets.co.uk with any feedback or incident reports in order for us to ensure any incidents are dealt with promptly and effectvely through our internal diciplinary channels by our Head of Safeguarding.
