Outreach Programmes
Rockets work with a range of partners to work across the great diverse city of Birmingham. This enables us to take our club around the region and provide a Rocket’s experience to those communities who are unable to come to us.
In recent times we have successfully delivered a wide range of programmes to thousands of young people, many in the most deprived and underprivileged areas of Birmingham. The HS2 Community programme has seen Rockets coaches provide over 20 hours of basketball each week in the Nechells ward of the city. Each week, Primary and Secondary age children in 8 local schools benefited from a visit by a Rockets coach. This project has impacted upon over 650 children!
The club has worked with West Midlands PCC and the West Midlands Police Safe Haven team to deliver diversionary activities to some of the hardest to reach communities in Birmingham. These activities have been delivered in the Chelmsley Wood and Ladywood districts of the city. The projects have enabled over 70 young people to access free basketball provision on a regular basis.
During the summer lockdown period, Rockets coaches were proud to actively engage young people in parks all around Birmingham including Erdington, Kings Norton, Quinton, Mere Green, Kings Heath and Acocks Green. The sessions were delivered in partnership with Inunity and on many occasions voluntarily by our Rockets coaches.
The passion, dedication, and commitment shown by our staff ensured hundreds of young people had an opportunity to play basketball in an organised and safe environment throughout what is no doubt recognised as the most challenging period of time in recent living memory.
Our outreach programmes continue to take basketball into areas where it may not otherwise reach. If you would like Rockets to partner with your organisation in an outreach project or programme please contact us at enquiries@cobrockets.co.uk
