Gatluak ‘Mike’ Thiep Joins The Rockets Ahead of 2021/22 Season

The Rockets are pleased to announce their second signing for the 2021/22 season with the addition of Gatluak ‘Mike‘ Thiep to the roster.

At 7’0 tall, Thiep will provide shot-blocking, rebounding and a scoring presence for Rockets as the team and Coach Paul Douglas prepare for the challenges ahead in Division 2.

Having been born in London, Thiep spent his childhood years growing up in Birmingham from the age of 5 and now returns to the city to join the club after spells in Japan, Spain and Northern Ireland along with a pre lockdown stint in the BBL with Surrey Scorchers.

Mike can’t wait to be on the court in a Rockets vest, “I’m excited at the prospect of being able to play under Coach Douglas and to be joining a team and program with high aspirations. The opportunity to represent a team in the city I grew up in is a great honour for me and I look forward to the season ahead.”

Rockets Head Coach Paul Douglas is delighted to have secured the services of Thiep, “ Mike will bring knowledge and experience to our group along with his obvious size.

His ability to play both inside and outside suits our style of play perfectly. I’m extremely excited to have him onboard!”
