City of Birmingham Rockets are pleased to announce the return of Zack Powell to our men’s first team roster ahead of the 2025/26 BCB season!
The high-flying guard was one of the standout performers for Coach Smith’s side last season, playing every game and recording 16.5 points per game (ppg), 5.7 rebounds per game (rpg) & 4.2 assists per game (apg).
‘The General’ is known across the league for his pace, athleticism and deadly scoring ability, we are delighted to welcome him back for the upcoming season!

The story so far…
Zack started his basketball journey with us at Rockets as a junior, representing our Under 16 Boys junior team.
Born in Jamaica, Zack moved to Birmingham at the age of three and would go on to turn professional at just 19, signing for the Manchester Giants in the former British Basketball League (BBL).
After spending two years in Manchester, Zack departed for Ireland in the summer of 2021 to join up with the EJ Sligo All Stars.
He would enjoy a productive year in the Emerald Isle, helping Sligo gain promotion to the First Division after winning the National League.
A move to Reading Rockets followed, with Zack earning himself a reputation as one of the league’s most entertaining players during his time in Berkshire.

Zack returned home to Birmingham last summer to sign with his boyhood club, showcasing his athletic prowess on a number of occasions to entertain fans up and down the country.
“Ready to go to battle!”
We caught up with Zack for his thoughts ahead of the new season, where he expressed his excitement at returning as well as reinstating the importance of our home support in this season’s British Championship Basketball league.
“I’m happy to be back and ready to go to battle!” he said.
“Let’s flood out the stands, home games should feel like game 7 finals every time. Let’s make it happen Rocket fans!”
Welcome back, Zack!
