Rockets Women Confirm The Registration Of Five Players For The Remainder Of 2021/22 Season

City of Birmingham Rockets are pleased to announce a host of new additions to our Women’s First Team roster.

All players, bar Theodora Georgieva who is out with an injury, are available for selection for this Saturday’s game against Nottingham University Wildcats.

Sandra Hewakowska – Shooting Guard

We are delighted to announce the addition of Sandra Hewakowska to our Women’s First Team roster for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

She is no stranger to the Rockets organisation, having coached at our Hakeem Olajuwon ‘City of Birmingham Rockets’ Summer Camp back in 2019.

Sandra has previously represented Birmingham Mets and Team Birmingham Elite before impressing whilst playing for us in our test event in pre-season, and we look forward to seeing her out there for the Rockets!

Sophie Mansfield – Shooting Guard

Sophie played her first game for our women’s side last weekend away at Manchester Mystics, getting on the scoresheet as she helped us get back into the game in the third quarter.

Sarah Elfrey – Power Forward

Sarah played her first senior game last weekend against Manchester. At just sixteen years of age we are looking forward to her continued growth and development as part of our programme.

Antionette Torgbi – Power Forward

An experienced player who has previously represented the University of Birmingham, Antionette brings a high basketball IQ and a physical presence to our women’s side.

Theodora Georgieva – Point Guard

‘Tedi’ was a member of the U16 Bulgarian squad last year and is another player with great potential on Coach Peter Mintoft’s roster. She has represented our women’s side on numerous occasions this season and we are pleased to have her as part of the team for the rest of the season.

Speaking of the additions to his squad, Coach Peter Mintoft said, “We now have a deep squad which will naturally bring with it some selection headaches.

“However, selection issues could be a positive force for the group as we look to push on in the coming games.

Sandra is good at pushing the team, not just playing as an individual, so we are looking forward to the benefits that will bring to the group.

“Sophie also brings a lot of experience and is a good player to add to our team.”

We look forward to seeing the impact these players will have on the team going forward and wish them every success during their time with us here at the Rockets!
