BMet Rockets To Enter WEABL In 2025/26

Birmingham Rockets are delighted to announce that our elite academy at BMet College has been accepted into the WEABL for the 2025/26 season.

The WEABL (Women’s Elite Basketball League) is a competition that showcases talent from the best Under-19 Women’s basketball programmes around the UK, consisting of north and south conferences. It is the highest level of school or college competition in the country.

The addition of WEABL competition is an extremely exciting step for our female programme, allowing our female student-athletes the opportunity to compete at the highest level of competition available.

The BMet Rockets Academy’s current DiSE partnership will be moving to dual status to allow entry to WEABL from September 2025.

This will allow our female student-athletes to be eligible to complete the Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE), with the academy being one of just twelve providers nationwide.

Technical Director, Paul Douglas, said: “I am so excited for the future of female basketball not only for the club but also for the region.

We can now offer an extended performance pathway for the girls that mirrors our boys, where our student athletes get to play at the elite level for their age group, access personalised strength & conditioning programmes plus extensive sports therapy on a weekly basis.

“With our pathway for girls now running through mini basketball, community sessions, junior performance, WEABL and our women’s team, there is a clear path for girls in the region who want to compete and play at the highest level at Birmingham Rockets. With so much talent in our club and also in the region, we are delighted to be able to offer WEABL through the BMET Rockets Academy.”

Rockets CEO, Robert Palmer, added: “We have been working hard for a while to evolve our pathway for girls and we see this as a major addition to the programme!”

All female players interested in exploring their options at our elite academy at BMet ahead of September 2025 enrolment are invited to fill out the following expression of interest form. Players will then be contacted by Technical Director, Paul Douglas.
