After several hugely successful years running our International Summer Camp, Birmingham Rockets are thrilled to unveil our all-new Summer Performance Camp, a premier residential programme crafted specifically for advanced and performance-level athletes.
Led by Birmingham Rockets Men’s Head Coach, Charles Smith, this intensive week-long experience is built to push serious players to their limits, combining elite on-court development with high-level off-court education. It is the perfect pre-season accelerator for athletes aiming to progress into academy, college, or professional pathways.
About Head Coach Charles Smith
A true legend of the British Basketball League (BBL), Charles Smith is widely celebrated as one of the greatest players in league history.
Across a remarkable 20-year professional career, most of it spent with the powerhouse Newcastle Eagles, he played a defining role in establishing the club’s era of dominance.
His achievements include:
- 6× BBL Championships
- Multiple BBL Trophy titles
- BBL Cup Champion
- BBL MVP & multiple Finals MVP awards
- Multiple BBL Team of the Year selections
Coach Smith retired with an extraordinary 21 major honours, cementing his place among the UK’s basketball elite.
In 2024, he joined Birmingham Rockets as Men’s Head Coach in the British Championship Basketball (BCB) League, bringing elite expertise, leadership, and a proven track record in player development. His coaching approach blends technical mastery with high-performance standards—emphasising discipline, accountability, and a commitment to developing well-rounded, resilient athletes.
Across youth, academy, and senior levels, Coach Smith has guided numerous players into professional and international opportunities. His philosophy centres on building smart, confident, and competitive players capable of thriving at the game’s highest levels.

- Location: Residential at Bromsgrove School
