Birmingham Rockets Announce Historic Partnership to Sponsor West Midlands Basketball League

In a landmark move for regional sport, Birmingham Rockets Basketball Club is proud to announce a first-of-its-kind sponsorship arrangement with the West Midlands Basketball League (WMBL).

This significant partnership will see the city’s leading basketball organisation put its weight behind the local league, culminating in the sponsorship of the highly anticipated West Midlands League Basketball Finals Days, taking place at the Nechells Wellbeing Centre on 16th and 17th May 2026.

The collaboration marks a shifting landscape for grassroots basketball in the region, bridging the gap between the professional game and the thriving local league scene. By supporting the Finals Days, the Rockets aim to enhance the experience for players, officials, and fans alike, ensuring the crowning moment of the WMBL season is celebrated with the prestige it deserves.

Birmingham Rockets CEO, Robert Palmer, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration:

“We are delighted to be working with the local basketball community for the betterment of the sport in our region. The West Midlands has an incredible depth of talent and passion for the game. By supporting the WMBL and the upcoming Finals Days at Nechells, we are investing back into the roots of the game that sustains us all.”

The West Midlands Basketball League has long been the heartbeat of competitive play in the area, and this sponsorship represents a shared vision to professionalise and promote the sport at every level. Attendees can expect an electric atmosphere at the Nechells Wellbeing Centre, with the region’s top teams battling it out for silverware under the new partnership banner.

West Midlands Basketball League Chairman, Barry Viner, said: “The West Midlands Basketball League has been the primary provider of local league basketball in the Midlands for over 60 years.

“We are delighted to partner with the City of Birmingham Rockets and open the door for our players, officials and supporters to engage more closely with the professional game by offering our basketball community unprecedented access to Rockets home games.

“This collaboration brings new opportunities, new experiences, and a shared commitment to growing basketball across the West Midlands.”

Further details regarding the schedule and match day activations for the Finals Days on 16/17 May will be released in the coming weeks.
