Rockets In Review: December

December was a shorter month with just three weekends worth of fixtures scheduled and a host of games postponed until the new year across the club.

It proved to be a slow start to the month, but our Under-12 Mixed side recorded our first win of December in dominant fashion as they dismantled Leicester Riders Red 69-20 at Charnwood College; limiting our hosts to under ten points in each of the four quarters.

Our Under-18 Men were also awarded a BYE on the opening weekend.

It was, however, a tough month for our first teams as with some difficult games across the month.

Coach Douglas’ absence was felt as our Men’s First Team struggled to build on a strong November, whilst our Women’s First Team mounted a spirited comeback against Bromsgrove Bears; but Coach Mintoft’s side just fell short of completing what would have been a memorable turnaround.

Our Under-16 Girls side also came close to an impressive comeback win as they faced off against Derby Trailblazers on the final weekend of matches.

Trailing 36-22 at the half, they rallied back in the final two quarters but fell just short with Derby holding on to claim a 61-59 victory.

Our Under-16 Boys Premier side also fell to a narrow defeat in their only league fixture of the month, with Leicester Riders making home court advantage count as they edged Ricardo D’Alva’s team 63-55 courtesy of a strong fourth quarter showing.

Our Under-14 Premier side didn’t take to the court in December with all of their fixtures called off for a multitude of reasons, but the U14 conference side played two tough away games; pushing Mansfield Giants all the way at Oak Tree Leisure Centre before ultimately falling to a 60-53 defeat.

The new year saw us make great strides after a chance to consolidate over the winter break – stay tuned next week for the January edition of Rockets In Review!
