City of Birmingham Rockets are delighted to announce the appointment of Birmingham basketball icon Clive Allen as women’s first team head coach.
Synonymous with basketball in Birmingham, Clive achieved legendary status with the Birmingham Bullets in his two stints at the club from 1985-87 before returning for another spell from 1988-01.
This coincided with some of the Bullets’ best years, with Clive twice making the playoffs with the team as well as earning international recognition with England during this time – representing his country on five occasions.
After his playing days, Clive went on to be assistant coach at BBL side Milton Keynes Lions (now London Lions) from 2005-07 before taking up the role of General Manager at Birmingham Panthers.
More recently, Clive has coached and coordinated the Sporting Club Albion basketball programme alongside his Big Sky Basketball School across the Black Country.
Rockets CEO, Robert Palmer, is delighted to have Clive on board with us here at Rockets and spoke of the impact he anticipates he will have as head coach of our women’s first team.
He said, “We are very pleased to welcome Clive to the club.
“It’s been a difficult period for our women and we hope this appointment can give them a much-deserved boost.
“We know we are gaining an excellent coach, who possesses great experience, with a passion and enthusiasm for the game that will motivate the players.
“Clive’s knowledge and leadership at the top level makes him a great fit for the team and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to bring him back to Birmingham to join us on our journey here at Rockets.”
Everyone associated with Rockets would like to extend a warm welcome to Clive and we wish him every success during his time with us.
Welcome, Clive!
