City of Birmingham Rockets Basketball Club are pleased to announce that Afonso Tavares is joining the club to take up the position of Head Coach of our Under-14 Premier side.
Coach Afonso is a progressive Portuguese coach and boasts extensive experience at Portuguese sides Clube Desportivo José Régio and Clube Desportivo da Póvoa.
He had this to say ahead of his announcement, “It is an honour to be a part of this club and this community.
“I look forward to getting my hands on it and doing my best for the club and the community.”
The 23-year-old coach, who began his coaching journey back in 2016, is an extremely exciting appointment for Rockets and we look forward to seeing the impact he will have at our club.
Rockets CEO, Robert Palmer, had this to say about the appointment of Coach Afonso, “We are delighted to have secured the services of a young and ambitious coach in Afonso to take the lead on this important age group.
“Afonso has good experience in working with and developing young talent and will be a great addition to the programme.
“We look forward to welcoming him into the Rockets family!”
