Weekend Roundup: 17th December 2022

The final round of fixtures for 2022 saw just four games take place on Saturday, with Rockets recording three victories and coming seconds away from a clean sweep.

Our Under 16 Girls were up first at midday away in Leicester with Coach Evans’ side overcoming Leicester Warriors by a 100-point margin in a 114-14 demolition.

The result sees the team remain unbeaten and continue to build on their perfect early season record.

Fresh off their quarterfinal success last Sunday, the Under 16 Boys Premier side were up next in the early tip at Nechells Wellbeing Centre.

Coach Douglas’ side faced Newcastle Eagles, who struggled to deal with the Rockets intensity throughout the game; with Rockets eventually winning 92-64 to keep the pace with Manchester Magic at the top of the standings.

The Under 14 Boys Conference side then took to the court, looking to record their maiden win.

Northants Thunder came into the game on the back of a strong start to the season but Rockets came out and matched them all the way – leading the game with just seconds remaining on the clock.

A late Northants basket spelled heartbreak for Coach Gaskell’s side, who lost out 68-67.

Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take from the game and the team look primed to record that elusive first win soon!

Our final game of the season saw our Men’s First Team take on Charnwood Riders at Nechells.

Coach Gayle’s side dispatched the young Riders by way of a 111-57 score line – with the 54-point difference our joint highest margin of victory this year; with the other win of that margin coming at Charnwood at the start of the season.

The win moves the team to 12-0 in the standings; remaining the only remaining undefeated team in the division as we head into the 2023!
