Disappointing Weekend Across The Board For Junior Teams

It was a weekend to forget for our junior team, as we unfortunately failed to record a win and came up second best in all of our fixtures.

The day started with our Under-14 Boys Conference team away at Mansfield Giants. Matt Gaskell’s side put in a fine performance, leading by five points at the end of the first quarter, but were ultimately defeated 60-53 by our hosts.

Our Under-16 Boys Conference side also lost away to Coventry Tornadoes 75-46 on Saturday, despite a promising performance in the third quarter in which we both scored 17 points.

Our Under-16 Boys team were in action twice over the weekend, away at Leicester Riders in the League and Manchester Magic in the cup. Our game at Leicester ended in our third defeat in a row, an unenviable run of form that has seen Rockets drop to fourth, although we remain only three points off top-spot.

On Sunday, Ricardo D’Alva’s team travelled to the Manchester Basketball Centre to take on Magic in the quarter-finals of the cup. Despite a good performance we lost 69-40, as Magic proved too much to handle, brining our hopes of cup glory to an end.

Our Under-18 Boys team were also unable to record victory this weekend, losing 108-63 at Charnwood College Riders.

Next weekend, there’s no games at Nechells due to the balloon festival, so all our sides are away again, including our in-form Under-12 Mixed team playing Leicester Rider Red and our Under-14 Conference side away at Warwickshire Hawks.
