Nektarios Papadopoulos Departs To Pursue Professional Opportunity In Greece

City of Birmingham Rockets would like to wish Nektarios Papadopoulos the very best of luck as he embarks on an exciting new chapter in Greece.

Nektarios will be joining second division side Niki Volou BC.

Since joining the Rockets community sessions at the age of 12, Nektarios worked his way through the club’s youth ranks, representing Rockets at Under 14s, Under 16s, Under 18s, our BMet Academy and our men’s first team.

Nektarios made 16 appearances for our men’s team last season, earning the trust of Coach Smith since debuting against Newcastle in November.

Speaking about the impact the club has had on him as a young person and on his journey to turning professional, Nektarios said:

“Where do I start, the last six years I have been more than grateful to call Rockets my home.

“I’ve had countless amazing memories, ups and downs and lifetime friendships.

“Thankful for all the people around me I was able to call family, and the experiences we had together, forever grateful.”

Coach Ricardo D’Alva worked closely with Nektarios at Under 16s, Under 18s & at EABL level and praised his character and work ethic on his journey to fulfilling his ambition of going pro.

“Coaching Nektarios over the past few years has been a real privilege” he said.

“He has always had a strong character — confident, driven, and not afraid to face challenges head-on.

“But behind that is a good kid with a big heart, someone who listens, learns, and truly cares about getting better.

“Watching him grow, on and off the court, and now seeing him sign his first professional contract, is something I’m really proud of.

“He’s worked for it. He’s earned it. And I’m grateful to have been part of his journey.”

Rockets CEO, Robert Palmer, was also quick to praise Nektarios’ work ethic and commitment while wishing him the very best of luck ahead of this exciting next step.

“Nektarios is a shining example of what hard work, talent and commitment can achieve.

“We have seen him flourish into a fine young man and all of our coaching staff and wider club family are extremely proud to see him realise his dream with this step into professional basketball in Greece.

“The loyalty and commitment shown to the club since his arrival in the UK is testament to the character of Nektarios and his development and progression at the club reflects the work he has put in to achieving this.

“I look forward to seeing the next phase of his journey at Niki Volou BC, and on behalf of everyone at Rockets I wish him the very best of luck!”

Best of luck, Nek!
