Rockets Throwback

We are now entering our 18th year here at City of Birmingham Rockets and we have a rich history of working with some incredible young people during this time.

We are so proud of the young men and women who have represented the club with pride and progressed to become fine citizens of our great city and in many cases have had great basketball careers.

Here our timeline represents some magical moments during our magical journey……

Senior Men finish 2nd in National League Division 3
NBA star boosts Academy
Former NBA star Hakeem Olajuwon, formerly of the Houston Rockets and the Toronto Raptors, was in The Sixth Form College, Solihull to film a media interview in the College’s Sports Hall. With him was Director of the City of Birmingham Basketball Club Rob Palmer, who leaded the College’s Basketball Academy when was officially launched in September 2018.
Club name adapted to City of Birmingham Rockets
First international Summer Camps run in partnership with Hakeem Olajuwon
In April 2016 the club launched our first International Residential Summer Camp in partnership with Hakeem ‘The Dream’ Olajuwon. Following its unbridled success, it will now take place as an annual event for the club.
Partnership with NBA Legend Hakeem Olajuwon formed.
The City of Birmingham Basketball Club is proud of the fact that they are working in partnership with Hakeem Abdul Olajuwon (Born January 21, 1963), Hakeem is described as the ‘Greatest Centre’ ever in the NBA (National Basketball Association) in the USA.
Senior Team entered into National League competition for the first time
Club takes part in X-Mas tournament in Belgium for the first time
City of Birmingham Basketball Club 2003 CIC Limited formed
Girls programme launched
Under 16 team reach Final 4s
Under 14 team reach Final 4s
Rockets host touring Chicago High School, Prosser Career Academy, in a first for the city.
First overseas trip to Dublin
City of Birmingham Basketball Club Founded
City of Birmingham Basketball Club was formed in 2003 with the simple concept of providing basketball playing opportunities for young people in Birmingham.
