Hakeem Olajuwon City of Birmingham Rockets International Summer Camp 2020 Cancelled

During the last few weeks and months since the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a global shutdown, we have been holding on to the hope that our prestigious Hakeem Olajuwon City of Birmingham Rockets Summer Camp could still take place in 2020 as planned.

After extensive thought, research and deliberation, with the UK still on partial lockdown we have made the difficult decision to cancel our 2020 camp. As you know, the coronavirus pandemic has had a profound impact globally, nationally, and locally, and will continue to pose significant challenges into the foreseeable future.

In an international event, as our camp now is, the welfare, health and safety of participants, coaches and staff is always our main priority. Therefore we have been left with little option but to take this step.

We are all really disappointed as the camp is one of the highlights of our calendar and an incredible experience each year for those involved. We look forward to returning in 2021 with some great new additions to camp and bringing some more memorable experiences.

To all campers who were due to attend we understand you will be disappointed but we also feel sure you will understand the reasons why we have had to take this decision.

Hakeem sends you all this message, “Guys, I was so looking forward to seeing you at camp this summer. Each year the camp has grown bigger and better and I know you will be as disappointed as I am that we couldn’t go ahead this year. However we must follow the guidance however frustrating that might be.

The team here will be working hard to ensure our 2021 camp is very special. In the meantime please stay safe.
