The same players that represented the Under 14 Premier team   also competed in the Under 16 Midlands Conference league (winning several games) which helped the players with the physicality of the game. Having to mark taller and stronger opponents made the game easier for them when they played in their own age group.

Even though the players struggled with rebounding and the speed of the older players, it will help them moving forward into the Under 16 age group as it will not be a new thing they haven’t faced before.

Playing up an age group helped with our finishing as the players had to be creative finishing over and around bigger players. Ball movement improved because it wasn’t easy for players to make straight line drives. From convincingly winning Under 14 games by 30 or 40+, playing up put the team in situations where the games were close or in situations where we were down and had to show perseverance.

The players were a really good group to coach and they are all ready for the next step of their journey into Under 16 basketball.”

Thank you to our team manager Sonia Armstrong- Wheatle for her support during the season. With the team playing in 2 competitions good organisation was important.

Behind the scenes Sonia worked tirelessly to organise fixtures and travel amongst other things for which we are all very grateful.”
